By episcopal decree signed on August 24, 1899 by the then prelate of the diocese, Dr. Pere J. Campins Barceló, the Historical Archive of the Diocese of Mallorca was built, and the figure of the diocesan archivist was created. The first archivist was Mr. Materu Rotger Capllonch. Since its creation, the archive is part of the Church and guards its historical legacy. It has parochial documents from the conquest of Mallorca up to the present day; a never-ending collection, as progressively more and more material arrives from the different parishes in Mallorca.
